Review time! George Ezra and Flo Morrissey, Summer Series at Somerset House 2015

Last night I saw George Ezra supported by Flo Morrissey at Somerset House, as part of their Summer Series, sponsored by American Express.

Somerset House is one of London's most iconic buildings and makes an amazing setting for such a, what felt like, intimate gig. Doors opened at 7:30pm and the ever so talented Flo Morrissey came on at 8pm. The Folk Singer/Songwriter played songs from her new album 'Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful', which helped to create a 'calm before the storm' atmosphere at Somerset House. Unfortunately it was difficult to hear the lovely Flo introducing each song above the audience talking, so I didn't manage to get down a setlist. However with her Folky orchestral sound and Lana Del Ray esk sounding voice, I would recommend giving this rising star a listen.

The wonderful George Ezra came on with his band at 9pm and opened with Cassy O' from his second EP. Straight away getting the audience going and singing along. He kept the audience dancing for the next two songs, playing Stand By Your Gun and Listen to the Man. He slowed things down a little with Song 6 and did a beautiful cover of Bob Dylan's Girl from the North Country. Ezra then played Leaving It Up to You. He did it without a choir, which he has on the track. However the audience acted as a sort of choir, singing along with him. Blame It on Me and Spectacular Rival were next, showcasing George's big voice and impressive songwriting skills. Ezra then did another cover, this time it was Macy Gray's I Try. It went down incredibly well with the audience, as did George's own Barcelona, my personal favourite, which followed. He introduce a couple of his song throughout the set, with funny little anecdotes and interacting with the audience, which was how he introduced my mum's favourite, Budapest. Of course everyone was dancing and singing along, especially during the high bits that Ezra sings with his magnificent and soulful falsetto. The crowd went wild at the end, demanding an encore. He came back on and played Blind Man in Amsterdam, and closed with Did You Hear the Rain? which was from his very first EP and is probably one of his darker songs, but shows off the amazing skill and range in his vocals in the eerie, acapella intro.

The evening was a great success. The setting lending itself to being a fabulous venue with an intimate feel. Both Flo Morrissey's delicate voice and George Ezra's large vocals filled the courtyard and created what I thought was an amazing evening.

Where you there or have you seen either of the acts this year? Are you a George Ezra or Flo Morrissey fan? I would love to hear from you!
